Each week we make our trek to the grocery store. It always seems like an ordeal, and perhaps that just means I have to go to a different grocery store. I don’t really care for the one I use now, but there is one big reason why I still go there. They are the only store in the area that carries the coffee beans that I use for my daily coffee. There are other stores, and they have different brands, but the particular brand I need can only be found at one place, so I have to shop there or I have to make two different trips. Who has time for that?

Different countries drink their coffee in different ways. The Moroccans for instance add peppercorns while those from the Middle East use cardamom and spices. Austrians love putting whipped creams into their coffee cup while the German and the Swiss like it with chocolate. Egyptians drink it black while the Italians use sugar. The turks even use coffee in their wedding feasts.

So this was the secret of great grand mother’s great tasting coffee! My cousins and I gathered around to stare at the antique coffee grinder. There was more to it than the fact that it was old. Or that it was a coffee grinder, the likes of which could scarcely been seen nowadays. There was even more to it than the fact that it was a piece of history. It was a piece of our history. It was the one thing that made my great grand mother a legend.

I didn't want to ask him what his secret was. It seemed like I had failed if I couldn't figure out how to use a coffee maker automatic on my own. I experimented with different settings. I set the automatic coffeemaker to drip more slowly, to drip faster, and to use hotter and cooler water. I even tried adding cardamom and shaved chocolate. Nothing seemed to do the trick. The automatic coffee maker still didn't make the same perfect cup I had had at my friend's house.

Interesting information on coffee trees. Coffee and espresso can be a quite debatable topic. For example, just take a look at Starbuck's. What do you think they're brewing in there? I can't say whether or not it's arabica coffee; however, I can say that it doesn't taste very fresh. Heck, not by a long shot!
